Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman refuted Vice President Sara Duterte’s claim that the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA) was mishandled, emphasizing that budget adjustments depend on Congress.
Duterte had cited the “mishandling” of the budget as one of her reasons for resigning as Education Secretary, despite the Department of Education (DepEd) receiving a budget increase from P711 billion to P715 billion in 2024.
Pangandaman noted that the increase was to support DepEd’s MATATAG Agenda, countering Duterte’s allegations.
Lawmakers criticized Duterte for her comments, accusing her of not addressing issues within DepEd during her tenure.
Additionally, Pangandaman announced that government employees will soon receive pay hikes under the latest tranche of the salary standardization law.
