Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno vowed sanctions against Bureau of Customs (BOC) officials found to have helped Pacifico and Cezarah Discaya evade duties and taxes on their 28 luxury cars, now under BOC custody.
The Discayas, also accused of profiting from fraudulent flood control projects, face scrutiny as each vehicle undergoes verification of documents, serial numbers, and import entries.
Nepomuceno said any deficiency, altered records, or collusion with insiders would result in charges under the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
If the cars are proven to be smuggled, the BOC will issue seizure and detention orders leading to their confiscation and auction.
Strict security has been placed on the vehicles, with Coast Guard and customs personnel guarding them.
