The Quezon City government announced that its Sangguniang Panglunsod will enact an ordinance on digital awareness and healthy screen time to guide children and teens in responsible internet use.
Mayor Joy Belmonte said the initiative strengthens the city’s drive for a child-safe digital environment, marking Safer Internet Day for Children.
Workshops involving student leaders, parents, barangay child protection officers, and internet providers covered artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital self-care, and ethical online behavior to enhance practical skills.
Citing Microsoft’s Global Online Safety Survey, Belmonte noted that while teens face online risks such as cyberbullying and scams, most are capable of reporting dangers, emphasizing the need for supportive local interventions.
The city will also relaunch its “TekkiNanay” program to equip parents with digital literacy, ensuring children can safely thrive, learn, and express themselves in online spaces.
