Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa apologized after receiving backlash for mocking the appearance of Akbayan Rep. Percival Cendaña, a stroke survivor.
He admitted that his remarks were inappropriate and took full responsibility for the hurt they caused, extending a direct apology to Cendaña.
In response, Cendaña welcomed the apology but urged Dela Rosa to also extend it to other stroke survivors who were offended.
He emphasized that public servants should practice responsible leadership and avoid discriminatory remarks.
The controversy stemmed from a social media exchange where Dela Rosa made a derogatory comment about Cendaña’s facial appearance, prompting the lawmaker to call for more humane and rational political discourse.
