The Bacolod City government has distributed P6.2 million in financial aid to 521 solo parents as part of its compliance with the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act.
Each beneficiary received a lump sum of P12,000, covering monthly subsidies for 2024 to help with essential child-rearing expenses like education and healthcare.
The city council has allocated a total of P18 million to assist around 1,500 solo parents this year.
DSSD head Richelle Verdeprado emphasized that the subsidy is available to all qualified solo parents, including fathers.
The law recognizes solo parents under various conditions, including widows, separated individuals, and relatives acting as primary caregivers.
