Antipolo Rep. Romeo Acop, 78, passed away yesterday from a heart attack at Assumption Specialty Hospital and Medical Center.
A former two-star general in the Philippine National Police, Acop later entered politics and reclaimed the Antipolo congressional seat previously held by his late wife, Resurreccion Acop.
During his tenure, he served as chairman of the House committee on transportation and co-chair of the quad committee, earning praise for his integrity, discipline, and perfect attendance in legislative sessions.
Colleagues, including former House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson, lauded his dedication to public service, fair leadership, and respect for due process.
Lawmakers expressed condolences and vowed to honor Acop’s legacy, noting his lifelong commitment to discipline, integrity, and service to the Filipino people.
