The Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) will handle any request to freeze the assets of former president Rodrigo Duterte as he faces trial before the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity.
Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro stated that the Philippine government will ensure justice is served, regardless of the request’s origin.
She emphasized that the AMLC “spares no one” and could act if asset freezing is necessary for victim reparations.
Castro also noted that aside from the ICC case, a pending plunder case against Duterte could already warrant such action.
The Palace reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law.
