The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) has fined online booking platform AirAsia MOVE PHP6 million for offering overpriced airfares, violating the Air Passenger Bill of Rights and fare regulations.
The Department of Transportation praised the swift action, emphasizing that the government will not tolerate abuse against Filipino passengers.
The investigation was prompted by reports of tickets from Tacloban to Manila priced at around PHP77,704—three times higher than booking directly with the airline.
AirAsia MOVE’s CEO claimed the platform does not set fares and that the overpriced tickets were due to third-party suppliers and technical glitches, but CAB held the company liable regardless.
CAB stressed that displaying fares exceeding regulatory ceilings misleads consumers and harms market fairness and airline reputations.
