Malacañang said the Armed Forces of the Philippines is verifying reports alleging a destabilization plot to oust President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., with the names of Vice President Sara Duterte, Rep. Paolo Duterte, and former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson among those tagged as supposed financiers.
The Palace cautioned the public against believing unverified social media claims and said legal action may be taken against those spreading false information.
Vice President Duterte and her brother Paolo both dismissed journalist Ramon Tulfo’s accusations as baseless gossip, while former officials named in the list—such as Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong and Gen. Romeo Poquiz—denied any involvement.
The August Twenty-One Movement (ATOM), meanwhile, warned against any military intervention, urging adherence to the Constitution and condemning efforts to replace Marcos with Duterte.
The group emphasized that real accountability should come through justice and anti-corruption efforts, not unconstitutional power grabs.
