The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) arrested 39 individuals and seized 7,900 registered SIM cards in a nationwide crackdown on illegal SIM card sales last month.
Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang said the arrests resulted from 31 entrapment operations between Jan. 1 and 31, with one minor turned over to social welfare authorities.
Some seized SIM cards were linked to e-wallets and bank accounts, raising cybersecurity concerns.
The suspects face charges under the SIM Registration Act and the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act.
Yang warned the public against buying registered SIM cards, emphasizing legal consequences.
