President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that over 1 million more households will gain electricity access through solar home systems by 2028, as part of the administration’s push for nationwide electrification.
In his fourth SONA, he said 200 power plants will also be built to supply energy to 4 million homes, thousands of factories, and commercial establishments.
He directed the DOE and NEA to meet these targets, focusing on underserved provinces like Palawan, Samar, and Zamboanga del Sur.
Marcos also vowed accountability over the prolonged power outage in Siquijor, blaming poor systems, expired permits, and failed generators for the crisis.
He ordered energy agencies to fully restore Siquijor’s electricity by the end of the year.
