Vice President Sara Duterte expressed concern after her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, was reportedly found unconscious in his ICC detention cell in The Hague and required lab tests.
She criticized the ICC for allowing Philippine agents to conduct “welfare checks” without notifying the family, calling it an abuse of power and raising doubts about the court’s ability to protect him.
Sara condemned the ICC for neglecting her father’s medical needs, citing delays in care and the absence of a 24-hour caregiver despite his frail health.
She argued that his continued detention is unjust, as he poses no flight risk or threat and is being punished without conviction.
The vice president called on the ICC to ensure proper medical and humanitarian treatment for Duterte, describing the current conditions as cruel rather than just.
