An Iloilo court has issued a warrant for the arrest of Nereo Cajilig Lujan, the province’s public information and community affairs chief, over alleged cyberlibel against former Mayor Jerry Treñas.
The warrant, dated February 24, stems from a Facebook post by Lujan and sets bail at P48,000 for two counts of cyberlibel.
Treñas filed the complaints personally, emphasizing that the case is about principle and drawing the line between criticism and character assassination.
Lujan has reportedly posted bail and argued on social media that using the law to target freedom of expression undermines democracy.
He maintained that laws should protect dissent rather than silence it, framing his defense as a stand for free speech.
