Vladimir Lait dominated the Rapid category of the Don Tomas Mapua Centennial Chess Cup, securing the title and the ₱10,000 prize after an undefeated run.
The Grade 12 student defeated notable players, including Glenn Midel Delos Santos and Christian Arroyo, and expressed joy over his victory.
In the Blitz category, Von Arvie Barbosa from Taytay, Rizal, emerged as champion with an impressive 8 points.
The tournament, held at Mapua University gym in Intramuros, was graced by Asia’s first Grandmaster Eugene Torre, Mapua University President Dr. Dodjie Maestrecampo, and CIDG Director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III.
Organized by the Mapua Filipino-Chinese Alumni Association, the event showcased top chess talents in celebration of Mapua’s centennial.
