UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DROPS TO 3.6% IN NOVEMBER 2023

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) announced a further decrease in the country’s jobless rate, reaching a recent low of 3.6% in November 2023.

National Statistician Claire Dennis Mapa reported that the number of unemployed individuals aged 15 and above dropped to 1.83 million, down from 2.09 million in the previous month.

This marks a significant decline of 275,000 jobless individuals compared to November 2022. Mapa highlighted that this is the lowest unemployment rate since April 2005.

Among the unemployed, the PSA noted that 3.2% of males and 4.1% of females were without jobs in November 2023.

Additionally, there were 5.79 million underemployed individuals, expressing a desire for additional work or hours, a slight increase from October 2023 but significantly lower than the 7.26 million recorded in November 2022.
