The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) has reiterated the need for approximately 94,540 additional education support personnel nationwide, urging the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Budget Management (DBM) to address hiring backlogs.
Although the DBM recently approved 5,000 new administrative officer positions for DepEd, ACT argues this is insufficient for the over 47,000 schools across the country.
ACT Chairperson Vladimer Quetua highlighted that this addition would still leave many schools understaffed, leading to overworked conditions for administrative officers.
He also criticized DepEd’s clustering plan and the slow hiring process for teachers.
The group is also advocating for higher entry-level pay for education support personnel and increased funding for school maintenance and operations.
