TYPHOON UWAN EXITS PH, POISED TO RE-ENTER PHILIPPINE AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

Typhoon Uwan (Fung-Wong) continued to weaken on Monday and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by late Monday or early Tuesday, PAGASA said.

Forecasters warned that the typhoon may re-enter PAR on Wednesday evening after making landfall on Taiwan’s southwestern coast.

As of 5 p.m., Uwan was located 175 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h, moving northeastward along a recurving path.

Several provinces remain under Signal Nos. 1 and 2, while gale warnings are in effect for the seaboards of Northern, Central, and parts of Southern Luzon due to rough seas.

PAGASA expects Uwan to weaken further by Thursday before eventually dissipating.
