The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) has called on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to prioritize and certify as urgent the proposed P200 minimum wage hike bill.
TUCP stressed that despite ongoing political tensions, the plight of low-wage workers must remain a priority, as many struggle to afford basic necessities.
The bill, which passed the House on second reading in February, was stalled due to congressional adjournment but could still be approved when sessions resume in June.
TUCP warned that social media-fueled political divisions are distracting from pressing labor issues, including poverty and job insecurity.
With Congress set to reconvene on June 2, labor leaders hope for swift action before adjournment on June 13.
