Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco condemned an AI-generated video by China’s state-run China Daily that portrayed Filipinos as monkeys, calling it racist, dehumanizing, and deeply disturbing.
He said the video’s release, which coincided with the 10th anniversary of the 2016 arbitral ruling on the West Philippine Sea, appeared to be a deliberate attempt to undermine the Philippines’ legal victory.
Tiangco backed the diplomatic protest filed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of National Defense’s condemnation of the video.
He urged Filipinos to reject racism and disinformation, stressing that propaganda cannot erase the country’s rights under international law.
Meanwhile, the Stratbase Institute welcomed the support of nearly 30 countries that reaffirmed the validity of the 2016 arbitral ruling and backed a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific.
