Nintendo Co. has announced its collaboration with California-based studio Illumination to produce a new animated film based on the immensely popular Super Mario video game series.
Scheduled for global release on April 3, 2026, the movie follows the success of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which debuted last April as a joint venture between the two companies.
Co-produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo’s representative director and the creator of Super Mario, along with Chris Meledandri, founder and CEO of Illumination, the upcoming film aims to captivate audiences worldwide.
While details about the storyline remain undisclosed, it is unclear whether the new movie will serve as a sequel to its predecessor, which achieved significant success, ranking as the second highest-grossing animated movie in global box office history.
The venture, co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo, is slated for distribution in theaters worldwide, commencing with the United States and other markets in April 2026.
Nintendo reaffirms its commitment to crafting distinctive entertainment experiences for a broad audience, expressing its dedication to delivering unique content to fans worldwide.
