Teacher groups raised alarms ahead of the 2025–2026 school year opening, calling for urgent government action to address worsening education shortages nationwide.
The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) and the Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) demanded a significant increase in the education budget, urging it to be doubled to at least six percent of GDP in line with international standards.
Both groups highlighted critical gaps, including shortages of classrooms, teachers, learning materials, and insufficient support for the new Strengthened Senior High School curriculum rollout.
They also criticized the government for neglecting teacher welfare, citing low pay, overwork, and delayed benefits like medical allowances.
The teacher organizations pledged to intensify their campaign for increased funding, reforms, and improved conditions to ensure a quality and truly inclusive education system.
