According to a survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS), 44 percent of Filipinos believe that their lives will improve in the next 12 months.
Another 44 percent expect their lives to stay the same, while 5 percent anticipate a worsening situation. The remaining respondents did not provide an answer.
The net personal optimism score, which measures the difference between optimists and pessimists, stands at +39, slightly lower than the +42 recorded in September of the previous year.
The survey involved 1,200 adult respondents and was conducted from December 8 to 11, 2023. SWS Director for Communications and Information Technology, Leo Laroza, noted that respondents from Metro Manila expressed higher levels of optimism compared to those from Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Laroza also mentioned that inflation played a significant role in shaping Filipinos’ outlook on their quality of life, particularly among families who consider themselves poor.
Despite the challenges, Laroza emphasized that Filipinos have historically displayed optimism, which contributes to their resilience as a nation
