House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III called on ASEAN parliaments to prevent terrorists and extremist groups from exploiting artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
Speaking at a parliamentary training course on AI and terrorism, he emphasized that parliaments are not only legislative bodies but also guardians of peace and public trust.
Dy highlighted the Philippines’ experience with the misuse of digital platforms, citing disinformation, deepfakes, and AI-driven tools as real threats.
He stressed the need for stronger digital governance, law enforcement action, and legislative measures, including the Anti-Fake News and Disinformation Bill.
Dy also urged sustained cooperation among ASEAN member-parliaments to ensure responsible AI use, effective oversight, and regional security against cross-border extremist threats.
