SOLAR POWER AND INTERNET BRING HOPE TO REMOTE BALIWET ELEMENTARY

Baliwet Elementary School in Barangay Santa Fe continues to face challenges, including damaged classrooms, teacher shortages, and a lack of electricity, affecting learning for students in the remote sitio.

To address these issues, a private foundation installed a 5-kilowatt solar power system and Starlink internet connection, providing teachers and students with sustainable energy and high-speed internet.

Principal Oliver Pablo said the school has only four teachers covering multiple grades, often using personal funds and staying overnight to ensure classes continue.

The intervention, supported by Aboitiz Foundation, Okada Foundation, and Subic EnerZone, also includes a flat-screen TV donation and teacher training sessions to improve education quality.

Despite the aid, the school still requires more classrooms, additional teachers, and repairs to buildings damaged by typhoons and fire.
