Two vloggers, MJ Quiambao-Reyes and Krizette Laureta Chu, apologized to House lawmakers after being confronted with evidence that contradicted their claims.
Reyes had previously stated that extrajudicial killings (EJKs) during the Duterte administration were a “hoax” and that critics of Duterte were funded by drug cartels and terrorists.
Under threat of contempt, Reyes apologized and promised to verify her information in the future.
Chu also faced scrutiny over her claim that police officers were resigning following Duterte’s arrest, but later acknowledged the statement was false and promised to correct her post.
Lawmakers warned the vloggers to be more responsible with their statements and avoid generalizing or spreading misinformation, stressing the impact of such false claims.
