Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero admitted to orchestrating a coup to oust Sen. Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri from his leadership position, having garnered the support of 15 senators.
Escudero clarified that neither Malacañang nor the House of Representatives influenced the move, emphasizing internal Senate dynamics as the driving factor.
Sen. Bato dela Rosa’s unexpected support for the coup left Zubiri “shocked,” as Zubiri had believed Dela Rosa was a steadfast ally.
Despite the leadership change, Escudero assured that Senate committee work would continue seamlessly.
The seven senators who did not support Escudero, including Zubiri and Joel Villanueva, are considering forming an independent bloc, nicknamed the “Magic 7.”
