SENATOR DEMANDS URGENT ACTION ON UNPAID COVID-19 FRONTLINER BENEFITS

Senator Bong Go has called on government agencies to immediately settle the remaining ₱8.1 billion in unpaid health emergency allowances (HEA) owed to medical frontliners.

Go emphasized the need to use all legal and fiscal measures to fulfill the government’s obligation under Republic Act 1712, which he co-authored in 2022 to provide allowances to health workers during public health crises like COVID-19.

At a Senate health committee hearing on June 3, Go criticized the persistent delays in disbursing the HEA, especially since the pandemic emergency has long been lifted.

He reiterated that the nation’s healthcare workers, who risked their lives during the pandemic, deserve timely compensation.

Health Undersecretary Achilles Bravo noted that while a ₱27 billion gap was initially identified, additional claims have since brought the current total to ₱8.1 billion.
