The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has initiated talks with the UAAP to address reported pay disparities among basketball referees in the collegiate league.
The issue highlights differences in officiating fees, with referees in men’s games earning higher rates than those in women’s and junior divisions.
SBP emphasized its commitment to inclusivity and the advancement of women’s basketball in the country.
Meanwhile, UAAP clarified that fees are based on division rather than gender and pledged to maintain or increase referee compensation moving forward.
The collegiate league’s current season, hosted by the University of Santo Tomas, began in September and supports the national team’s preparation for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games.
