Singer-actress Sarah Geronimo used her performance at the UAAP Season 88 opening ceremony on September 19 to call out corruption in the Philippines.
During her rendition of “Ikot-Ikot,” she urged students to stand against the deceit and corruption plaguing the country, earning cheers from the crowd.
Speaking to over 36,000 attendees from UAAP member schools, Sarah emphasized the youth’s role as the nation’s hope and future leaders who can change the system.
She encouraged students to hold onto hope and work toward creating more opportunities within the Philippines so citizens don’t have to seek work abroad.
Other performers at the event included Lola Amour, Rob Deniel, Earl Agustin, and Kean Cipriano, with notable UST alumni athletes serving as torchbearers.
