San Miguel Corp. has partnered with the provincial government of Laguna to expand its river cleanup and restoration efforts aimed at reducing flooding.
The agreement integrates SMC’s five-year-old Better Rivers PH initiative into Laguna’s broader flood-mitigation plan.
The project will focus on cleaning and restoring major rivers and tributaries in Biñan, Cabuyao, San Pedro, and Santa Rosa to improve water flow into Laguna de Bay.
SMC will cover all costs, including dredging, fuel, logistics, and labor.
While the project will enhance river capacity and water quality, officials noted that addressing flooding in coastal towns will also require the national government’s planned underground spillway to Manila Bay.
