The Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality, led by Sen. Risa Hontiveros, has ordered the arrest and detention of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy for his continued refusal to attend the chamber’s investigation into alleged crimes.
Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri signed the order on Tuesday, March 19, directing Quiboloy to be detained at the Office of the Sergeant-At-Arms until he agrees to testify or resolves the contempt charge.
Zubiri emphasized that the arrest order aims to uphold the Senate’s inquiry process rather than punish Quiboloy.
The investigation concerns allegations of sexual abuse, human trafficking, forced labor, and other human rights violations against Quiboloy and his Kingdom of Jesus Christ church.
Quiboloy was previously issued a show-cause order to explain his absence from the hearings.
Zubiri clarified that the matter involving Quiboloy is a committee matter.
