QUEZON CITY AND UP COLLABORATE ON HOUSING PROJECT FOR INFORMAL SETTLERS

Informal settler families will soon receive decent shelters at two temporary relocation sites inside the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.

UP President Angelo Jimenez and Mayor Joy Belmonte signed a 25-year usufruct agreement on June 19, facilitating housing for families affected by the Philippine General Hospital Diliman project and a 2022 fire.

The local government will construct 300 housing units and manage the sites, while UP will provide the land and ensure policy implementation.

Jimenez emphasized the collaborative effort to address informal settlers’ issues humanely and legally, while Belmonte highlighted the importance of trust and providing a stable home for progress.

The agreement was approved by the UP Board of Regents in April.
