The Quezon City government welcomed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive requiring national agencies to secure permits from local government units (LGUs) before implementing infrastructure projects.
Mayor Joy Belmonte said the move ensures that projects are aligned with community needs, priorities, and safety, reinforcing the intent of the Local Government Code.
She noted that Quezon City had already institutionalized this principle through a 2020 ordinance mandating coordination with the city and a Certificate of Coordination from the Office of the Mayor before any project can proceed.
Belmonte stressed that such coordination prevents disruptions, safeguards systems like the city’s Drainage Master Plan, and ensures efficient use of public funds.
She added that true national progress can only be achieved through cooperation and mutual respect between national and local governments.
