The privatization of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) operations may lead to an increase in terminal fees, aeronautical fees, and rental fees, potentially impacting airfares.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista acknowledged the possibility of a terminal fee hike by the San Miguel-led consortium, the winning bidder for NAIA operations, contingent upon airport improvements.
Despite the potential fee adjustments, Bautista highlighted NAIA’s relatively low terminal fees compared to other Asian airports, standing at P550 for international flights and P350 for domestic flights.
Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Eric Ines noted the anticipation of fee hikes at NAIA, emphasizing that many charges have remained unchanged for over two decades.
Some airlines have expressed support for the privatization of NAIA operations.
