The Philippine National Police (PNP) has confiscated 1,563 firearms since the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban took effect, aiming to prevent election-related violence.
PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo reported that 24 suspected election-related incidents have been recorded as of March 7, with 11 confirmed as election-related, including nine violent cases.
The PNP is awaiting Comelec’s final list of areas of concern for the midterm elections, as some areas previously categorized as high-risk have been downgraded.
Of the confiscated firearms, 134 were seized at checkpoints, while the rest were recovered through police operations.
The gun ban remains in effect until June 11, 2025, as authorities work to maintain election security.
