The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced the deployment of approximately 34,000 police officers to ensure public safety during Holy Week and the upcoming summer vacation.
Police presence will be maintained at places of worship, tourist destinations, and major transportation hubs such as bus terminals, airports, and seaports.
Police assistance desks will also be set up in these areas. Oplan SUMVAC, the PNP’s summer vacation security operation, traditionally runs from April 1 to May 31, but due to Holy Week falling earlier this year, deployment will begin on Palm Sunday.
The PNP is already on heightened alert a week before Holy Week, with regional directors having the discretion to escalate alert levels as needed.
While no threats have been identified, coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine Coast Guard will continue.
Additionally, around 7,000 tourist police will be deployed in major tourist spots, supported by 400 K-9 units to ensure security for local and foreign tourists.
