PHIVOLCS RAISES LAHAR WARNING FOR PINATUBO, TAAL AMID HABAGAT

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) warned that heavy habagat rains could trigger lahar and volcanic debris flows from Mt. Pinatubo and Taal Volcano.

Communities in parts of Zambales, Tarlac, Pampanga, and Batangas may be affected by muddy streamflows and flooding.

PHIVOLCS said prolonged rainfall could remobilize volcanic deposits left by previous eruptions.

The agency urged residents and local governments in affected areas to monitor conditions and take preventive measures.

The warning came as the southwest monsoon continued to bring heavy rains across Luzon.
