The Philippines is set to host the Southeast Asian Trail Running Cup in Bontoc, Mountain Province, in June.
With over 200 elite trail runners expected to compete, the event aims to highlight the country’s natural beauty and position it as a sports tourism destination.
Leading the national teams are Asia Trail Master champions John Ray Onifa and Arnie Macaneras for men, and Angelie Cabalo and Elizabeth Dangadang for women.
The competition, featuring various categories including long trail and mountain classic, will see participation from eight countries vying for Team Champion titles.
The Philippines aims to build on its success from the World Mountain Trail Running Championships, with a strong team lineup including Skyrunning champion Trisha Reyes and promising U20 athletes.
While the main event is invite-only, runners can still join the Tawid Mountain Marathon on June 23, offering marathon, half marathon, and mountain classic divisions.
Participants stand to earn Philtra 2024 championships qualifier points and compete for the SEA Trail Cup Age Group title. For more details, visit https://philtra.ph/seatrc.
