President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has partnered with TikTok, a popular video hosting service, to launch an educational and entertainment initiative called “edutainment.” The aim of this collaboration is to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Philippines.
The partnership was formed during Marcos’ meeting with TikTok officials at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco.
Marcos expressed his desire for TikTok to provide training to small-scale sellers and entrepreneurs, particularly those in rural areas, to effectively promote their products.
With TikTok boasting 50 million users in the Philippines alone, Marcos recognized the platform’s popularity and agreed with TikTok’s CEO, Shou Zi Chew, on the idea of promoting local sellers’ products through the platform.
Chew expressed excitement about the two projects under the “edutainment” initiative, which will create more inclusivity for smaller sellers in the country.
