The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has undergone a significant digital transformation this year with the successful introduction of the Philippine Lottery System (PLS), updating the country’s nearly 30-year-old lottery infrastructure.
The PCSO recently concluded a one-year test run of its web-based lotto betting system, the “e-lotto” platform, on Dec. 15, bringing lotto games into the digital era and allowing players to bet and purchase e-tickets online, with payments facilitated through GCash e-wallets.
PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles expressed enthusiasm for the potential of the e-lotto platform to enhance agency revenues, emphasizing its accessibility for both local players and Filipinos abroad, aiming to combat illicit online games while supporting charity programs.
The e-lotto application is expected to be available on Google Play and iOS platforms in 2024. Initial payments are through GCash, with plans for additional third-party gateway options, and the registration process incorporates multiple layers of identity verification to prevent minors from circumventing the system.
The system also has mechanisms to suspend and permanently block accounts in case of misrepresentation by the player.
