President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. aims to create more job opportunities within the country, making working abroad an “alternative” for Filipinos.
During the OFW Family Day 2023 in Pasay City, Marcos emphasized his vision for a “Bagong Pilipinas” where more job prospects will be available domestically.
He acknowledged the sacrifices of overseas Filipino workers and their significant contribution to the economy.
The president also pledged to enhance the welfare of OFWs, offering support for those wishing to return to the country through livelihood and loan assistance programs, as well as skills upgrade training.
The move comes as the jobless rate fell to 4.2%, with Filipino employers hiring more staff in October. Additionally, cash remittances from OFWs inched up by 3% to $3 billion in October, marking the highest in 10 months.
