President Marcos inaugurated the P65.7-million Cabaruan Solar-Powered Pump Irrigation Project (SPIP) in Quirino, Isabela, aimed at boosting agricultural production by irrigating 350 hectares of rice fields and benefiting 237 farmers.
Highlighting the project’s ability to provide free irrigation through solar energy, Marcos emphasized the importance of irrigation in improving agricultural yield.
The SPIP, which is the largest in the country with 1,056 solar panels, also allows excess power to be sold to the national grid, providing additional income for farmers.
Constructed from July 2023 to February 2024, the system can produce 739,200 watts of power for its two submersible pumps.
Marcos also announced ongoing efforts to construct 152 similar projects nationwide to achieve rice self-sufficiency.
