The Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc has upheld the cancellation of the Duterte Youth Party-list’s registration, citing multiple violations including failure to comply with legal requirements, untruthful statements in its petition, and lack of genuine intent to represent the youth sector.
The commission also ruled that the group’s advocacy of violence and ties to the National Youth Commission disqualified it from participation in the party-list system.
Duterte Youth, which garnered 2.3 million votes in the last elections, had its proclamation suspended pending the nullification case but now faces removal from the system.
Chairman Ronald Cardema vowed to elevate the case to the Supreme Court, alleging political maneuvering behind the ruling.
Progressive groups such as the Makabayan bloc hailed the decision as a win for authentic youth representation and called for immediate proclamation of legitimate party-lists like Gabriela.
