Malacañang stated that any investigation into Vice President Sara Duterte’s alleged misuse of confidential and intelligence funds is under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Ombudsman. This comes after Akbayan Party and Tindig Pilipinas urged the Ombudsman to act on what they called a potential abuse of public resources. Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla confirmed he would review the complaint and clarified that while impeachable officials like Duterte may face criminal charges, they cannot be removed from office by his office. The Office of the Vice President has yet to issue a statement in response to the latest developments. Duterte has previously denied any wrongdoing related to the use of confidential funds.
