Police Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III has been appointed as the new director of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), effective Wednesday.
Torre confirmed his new role in a message to reporters, taking over from Maj. Gen. Leo Francisco. Previously, Torre served as the chief of Police Regional 11 (Davao Region), where he oversaw the arrest warrant service for televangelist Apollo Quiboloy, who surrendered on September 8.
Torre also faced controversy earlier this year when he resigned as chief of the Quezon City Police District following backlash for a press conference with a dismissed policeman who threatened a cyclist.
His appointment comes at a crucial time for the CIDG as it continues to tackle various high-profile criminal cases.
