Newly appointed National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago has outlined faster processing of clearances and combating cybercrime as his top priorities.
Santiago, who visited the Department of Justice (DOJ) undersecretaries on Friday after his oath-taking in Malacañang, replaces Medardo de Lemos.
De Lemos’ tenure was extended by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. until June 2024.
Santiago emphasized the need to improve NBI services and restore public trust, particularly focusing on the rapid issuance of clearances and tackling the surge in scams and cybercrime.
Before his new role, Santiago served as a Manila Regional Trial Court Judge.
