The Manila campaign period kicked off with intense exchanges between mayoral candidates.
Former mayor Isko Moreno accused the current administration of making the city filthy, citing rising crime and garbage problems, while reelectionist Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan defended her administration, insisting Manila was not filthy.
Businessman Sam Verzosa also entered the mayoral race, offering himself as an alternative to the established candidates.
In Pasay, Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano launched her reelection campaign with strong endorsements, while in Taguig, Mayor Lani Cayetano faced a challenge from Brigido Licudine and Arnel Cerafica.
Other cities, like Malabon, Caloocan, and Parañaque, also saw heated local election battles as candidates rallied support ahead of the May 12 polls.
