MTRCB SUSPENDS SMNI SHOWS FEATURING DUTERTE AND BADOY

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has issued a 14-day preventive suspension order on two programs aired by Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI), which feature former President Rodrigo Duterte and Lorraine Badoy, a former administration official.

The MTRCB released a statement yesterday announcing the suspension of “Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa” and “Laban Kasama ang Bayan,” effective since last Monday.

The decision came after a thorough review and investigation of the programs’ content, which allegedly violated guidelines and standards set by Presidential Decree 1986 and its implementing rules and regulations.

The MTRCB stated that it received multiple complaints regarding an alleged death threat made during an episode of “Gikan sa Masa.” Although the statement did not directly name Duterte as the guest involved, concerns were raised.
SMNI had previously agreed to pre-record and review episodes, but another complaint was filed regarding alleged death threats and the use of profane language in a different episode last month.

In the case of “Laban Kasama ang Bayan,” the program was suspended due to an unverified report suggesting that Speaker Martin Romualdez had travel funds amounting to P1.8 billion. Badoy and co-anchor Jeffrey Celiz were recently detained at the House of Representatives after being cited in contempt for their involvement with the unverified report.
