The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) aims to complete the repair and restoration of the Malabon-Navotas River navigational gate by next month, following damage caused by a barge collision in June.
MMDA acting chairman Don Artes announced that dredging will be finished by August 2, with repairs scheduled from August 3 to 16, and full operations expected to resume the following day.
The repairs will be carried out with the gate in an open position and during low tide to reduce flooding.
Artes acknowledged that weather and water conditions could impact the timeline. Navotas Representative Tobias Tiangco confirmed a P299 million budget has been allocated for the gate’s rehabilitation.
