Meralco customers will see a P0.2639 per kilowatt-hour increase in their electricity bills this March, bringing the overall rate to P12.2901 per kWh.
This translates to an additional P53 for households consuming 200 kWh. Meralco attributed the rate hike to the absence of a one-time refund, higher transmission charges, and an increase in the feed-in tariff allowance (FIT-All).
The rise in transmission costs was mainly due to higher ancillary service charges and deferred reserve market payments ordered by the Energy Regulatory Commission.
Despite the increase, Meralco assured consumers that it is working with industry partners to secure a stable power supply, especially during the high-demand summer months.
